Strain: Girl Scout Cookies (GSC)

Girl Scout Cookie, or more commonly known as GSC, is a popular hybrid strain that can be found locally at various dispensaries. The GSC strain is derived from its popular parental strains, OG Kush and Durban Poison. A sativa leaning hybrid, sure to keep you going, GSC is moderately difficult to cultivate and relatively short in stature. The plant produces dense, bright green buds that are woven with fiery orange hairs, and are surrounded by deep purple leaves. This strain also maintains a beautifully frosted appearance, and is sure to pack a punch.

Smell and taste

GSC produces a sweet and earthy fragrance. As you inhale, you will notice it’s sweet floral tones as the smoke passes over the tongue, that are both tasty and pleasant. As a Cannabis Cup award winner, it’s no surprise that patients love GSC. Even in its raw form of flower, a little GSC is sure to go a long way.

Through it’s euphoric, cerebral high and full body relaxation patients are sure to find relief. GSC induces a happy, relaxed, uplifted and creative buzz, while specifically targeting stress, depression, pain, fatigue, and insomnia. Just make sure you have a tall, refreshing glass of water, because this strain is sure to give you a dry mouth. Despite the cotton-mouth, the medicinal and recreational benefits of GSC will be sure to please any consumer.

According to Curaleaf, “In raw plant form, cannabis contains the acidic compound THC-A, not Delta 9-THC, and therefore could be ingested with no pharmacological or psychotropic effects.”

However, it is only once cannabis is heated, that the acidic compound THC-A convert to biologically active THC (Delta 9-THC). This rule applies to all cannabinoids (i.e.: decarboxylation converts acidic CBD-A to neutral CBD).

Curaleaf offers GSC in both the raw flower and vaporizer cup form. While both methods of inhalation produce the same aforementioned mind and body effects, individual users may feel more comfortable consuming GSC in one form over another.

Medicinal value

Any type of patient would benefit from smoking GSC in the flower form, except those with specific lung conditions that may experience adverse effects from the smoke. However, it is important to note that smoking cannabis in the flower form may provide a less intense buzz and may therefore be beneficial for new cannabis users or patients looking to indulge in its medicinal effects in a social setting.

Vaporizing cannabis can sometimes be complex and can increase the intensity of the effects. Contrarily, vaporizing GSC heats the cannabis to a safe level, without the use of combustion so that the patient is able to experience all the positive effects of GSC without the harmful inhalation of smoke and toxins. Patients who are not able to ingest smoke may be better off vaporizing.

Give it a try

If you’re looking to try cannabis in the flower form, Curaleaf and Trulieve offer pre-rolled joints and flower in various quantities and prices. Each strain produces different effects, and it is important to ask your budtender which strain will treat your symptoms best. However, GSC is a popular strain that is sure to uplift your spirits and bring your whole body into harmony. Individuals who enjoy the GSC strain may also enjoy, Thin Mint and Platinum GSC, which produce similar effects but vary in appearance.

Closing thoughts

GSC is one of my personal favorites because it not only looks beautiful and tastes great, but it’s medicinal effects far outweigh any relief to be gained through typical over-the-counter treatments. As a stay at home mom, GSC has specifically helped combat my anxiety and postpartum depression. It’s euphoric effects not only halt anxiety and depression in their tracks, but instead, instantly ignite light, love, laughter and creativity. The GSC strain has in turn helped me to be the mother I had always dreamed of. I’m not only a happier individual, but my family members are happier as well. If you’re looking to gain relief in both mind and body, but don’t want to be couch-locked, GSC is the strain for you.

Strain Review: Birds of Paradise

Strain Lineage and Summary Birds of Paradise was first cultivated by Dynasty Genetics, crossing Kali Snapple and Blue Heron. This cultivar is a perfect example of the flawed and outdated cannabis classification system. Of course I am referencing the “Indica-Sativa-Hybrid” paradigm used to distinguish the effects of various cannabis cultivars. While GrowHealthy labels Birds of
